Ping Monitoring
Ping monitoring sends ICMP echo requests from dedicated probe nodes that can open raw sockets — real latency and packet-loss data, not a TCP-connect approximation.
Raw reachability with real ICMP — not a TCP shortcut
What it checks
- Host reachability via ICMP echo
- Round-trip latency per check
- Packet loss across check windows
Set it up
- 1Add a ping monitor with a hostname or IP
- 2Set latency and loss thresholds
- 3Attach contacts or an escalation chain
FAQ
Why does real ICMP matter?
Many tools fake ping with TCP connects. ICMP measures network-layer reachability — a host can fail ping while a port still answers, or vice versa. The signals are different.
Can I ping internal hosts?
External probes only reach public IPs. For private networks, the internal agent runs the checks from inside.
