UDP Monitoring
UDP monitoring sends protocol payloads and listens for responses on connectionless ports — covering the services that TCP checks cannot see, from DNS resolvers to game server query ports.
The protocol nobody monitors until DNS or a game port dies
What it checks
- UDP port responsiveness
- Round-trip time for request/response protocols
- Silent packet loss that connectionless protocols hide
Set it up
- 1Add a UDP monitor with host and port
- 2Configure the expected response where the protocol defines one
- 3Wire alerts into your notification contacts
FAQ
Why is UDP monitoring rare?
UDP has no handshake to measure — a closed port looks identical to a dropped packet. Real UDP checks need protocol-aware payloads, which is why most tools skip them entirely.
